What is a DEER-BUD® ?

What exactly is a DEER-BUD® ?

DEER-BUD® IS: 

 A deer tag holder and tagging system made up of 2 pieces. (1) A hollow auger body, and (2) A hollow cap body. The cap body also has an attachment slot on the outside that will fit a standard zip tie, safety pin, etc. Basically, if you still want to go old school, we made provisions so you can still use the DEER-BUD® and protect your harvest tag. The total inside cavity space of your DEER-BUD® is 3 inches.

How do I use my DEER-BUD® ?

(1) Properly fill out your harvest tag, deer tag or transportation tag  to meet the state legal requirement.

(2) Unscrew the pieces of your  DEER-BUD®. Then roll up your deer tag to fit into the auger end. Screw the cap body onto the auger, securing your harvest tag inside.

(3) Fold back the ear to expose the ear canal. The ear canal is located on the outer most part of the ear and is approximately 1inch deep. Place the auger end of your DEER-BUD® into the ear canal. Push down with pressure and turn the DEER-BUD® to screw the auger into the ear canal for a secure fit. You may find that on some deer you have to angle your DEER-BUD® towards the eye of the deer while pushing down and turning to get the proper fit into the ear canal. The auger screw is meant to grip the inside wall of the ear canal, preventing it from easily coming out. To remove, simply reverse the action. Pull up as you unscrew your DEER-BUD®. Yes, it is reusable! 

Why DEER-BUD®?

My brothers and I were taught to use our knives to attach our tags to deer, cutting a small slit in the deer's ear, then using a piece of string to attach the tag. Anyone who has tagged a deer by the ear knows how tough the cartilage is. My brother had a successful hunt. He was holding the deer's ear making small cut to attach his tag. As he used pressure to the knife it cut faster and his blade went through quickly cutting his fingers before he could react. We cleaned up his cuts with the drinking water we had, and bandaged up his fingers as best we could. Mistakes with a knife in the woods can be life threatening. We will never have to worry about cutting or poking our hands or fingers again when using the DEER-BUD®.

The second challenge..... Dragging your deer out of the woods with your tag still attached. I have dragged deer through water, over and under logs, across rocks, and through thorns. It's frustrating when I constantly have to stop and backtrack to locate whatever piece of woodland debris snagged my tag and ripped it off the ear. DEER-BUD® fits inside the ear, protecting your tag. It's also water resistant, and will protect your harvest tag from rain, snow or water crossing.

The DEER-BUD® is capable of holding a 3" safety pin, folded zip tie, small pencil, wooden matches and more if you decide to carry it screwed together and fully open.
